ASBK Round 7 Phillip Island Whilst this was the last round of the ASBK series for 2013, it was my first time on a sportsbike at Phillip Island, so I was pretty excited. I had ridden there two years ago with the Yamaha Supermono series on a motard. Friday practice went well, learning the track and gaining a time of 1:48 to start the weekend. The weather was cool, but dry. Saturday was a big day. We had practice to begin with, followed by qualifying and then superpole. During practice I experienced throttle issues, upon a closer inspection in the pits, we had a frayed throttle cable. We quickly switched to the spare bike for qualifying. My next challenge was a slipping clutch on the spare bike, I still recorded a qualifying time though, meaning I had made superpole for the first time !!! Now I just need a bike for superpole. With the amazing comaraderie from Rohan and Anthony in the pits, we quickly changed the throttle cable on the main bike, with just 30 seconds before superpole commenced. I felt good on the bike, qualifying 12th for the main two races. Sunday was a bleak day weather wise, albeit dry for our two races. First race went well, finishing 11th, with a time of 1:45.9. I felt like I had a more pace within, so I relaxed before the second race. Race 2 went really well. I gained a great start, dicing throughout the race with Anthony from Cairns. We changed positions, chased each other down and pushed each other. I improved my laptime by 1.4 seconds to 1:44.5, had brilliant tyre wear, finished 11th and was one happy camper. Overall for the round I finished 10th based on points. The ASBK season started for me at rd 3 at Queensland Raceway, completing every round since then. I learn't heaps about myself, experienced new tracks, progressed each round and developed many great memories. The weekend was a success for many reasons, namely from the support from my loyal supporters, Rohan and Anthony in the pits, Yamaha and the Beck family. Appreciate each and everyone, it's a team effort.
